As a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, I believe water is so important that I usually keep some with me at all times. However, I also know that plastic bottles are an environmental problem and that they can leak unhealthful chemicals into the water—contamination is worse the longer the water is stored. So, when I heard that the dark blue plastic bottles were the most stable, I thought I was smart to just keep refilling the same bottle. I was the only one using the bottle, so I didn’t think to wash it, even though I would often put in a squeeze of lemon. I was mystified why I began feeling ill in spite of my healthy diet, exercise and supplements. Then one day I accidentally saw the pretty blue bottle in good light. Each ripple was coated with black gunk! I had been drinking mycotoxins from the mold growing inside. As soon as I stopped dosing myself with poisoned water, I felt fine. Now I have a better idea. I bought an unsweetened tea in a smooth glass bottle. I refill it with filtered water but I’m careful to send it through the dishwasher after just a few uses.
