It’s March and we’re three months into the year. If you were following the Phase-One Diet for the past three months, I’m willing to bet you’re craving something sweet, for a change. I will admit sugar is my biggest failure and weakness. It is that weakness that causes many to give up on their diet, but there are some things we can do to battle those urges.

Supplement-wise, two great helpers are Chromium Picolinate and D-Ribose. Chromium picolinate is a supplement that may help with insulin function and supports healthy blood sugars. D-Ribose is a naturally occurring sugar that helps create ATP, (adenosine triphosphate), which is the body’s primary energy molecule. D-Ribose helps increase energy reserves, speeds up recovery, and helps build cardiovascular health.

So, here are some ideas to naturally deal with food cravings:

1. Natural Fruit Sugars From Berries and Green Apples- Berries are high in antioxidants. Fresh berries are the best option. For the best berries, choose farms that don't use chemical pesticides. When you buy berries in a store, look for ripe berries with no sign of mold or mushy spots, and gently wash the berries before you serve them.

2. Cinnamon- Cinnamon is a perfect complement to apples, just like Robin is to Batman. The flavors combine easily and tastily. Cinnamon has also been suggested to improve glucose and cholesterol levels, according to 2003 Pakistani study.

3. Coconut- Now I know I am going to get some email because of my suggestion to use coconut oil. My favorite antifungal oil is olive oil for cooking, and oil of oregano is a personal favorite in everyday life. However, when I cook at high temperatures, I prefer an oil that won’t turn into a trans fat. It contains 8 percent Caprylic Acid, which is a potent antifungal. Coconut oil should, therefore, be considered a healthy option.

Here is this month’s sweet reward:

Fried Cinnamon Apples and Berries
2 Apples, sliced and cored
2 TBSP Cinnamon, ground
Coconut Oil
¼ cup Blackberries
¼ cup Red Raspberries
Coconut, Shredded (Optional)
Honey (Phase 2 Version)

Add coconut oil to pan, enough to coat the pan.
Add sliced apples, then sprinkle cinnamon over apples. Flip apples, add more cinnamon.
When brown and soft, remove apples.
Add berries on top of apples on plate.
