Perhaps 10 to 30% of all US buildings suffer from poor indoor air
quality- a condition sometimes described as “sick building syndrome.”
The number of sick buildings has been growing in recent years as many
buildings have reduced ventilation to reduce energy costs. Sick building
syndrome has been linked to higher levels of many health symptoms such
as asthma, nasal problems, frequent colds/flu, poor concentration,
headaches and fatigue. Some people with allergies or chemical
sensitivities have trouble working or living in such sick buildings.
What causes sick building syndrome? While there are many causes, most
sick building conditions are due to 1 or more of the following 5
