Eventually, I'll get around to writing an article about some illness, and it won't be autobiographical. But it seems that almost every time Doug asks us to write on a particular ailment, I've actually had that problem, myself!

Allergies are no exception. Oh, how I used to love this time of year, simply because the cold of winter was over, but how I used to hate it because the tyranny of allergies was at hand. Spring meant shorts and flip-flops and t-shirts, but it also meant that I'd be sneezing and stuffy-headed, and eventually, laid up with a "secondary" sinus infection.

Egos being what they are...

I know that I'm right on this. Fungus causes serious diseases! But I don't know to what extent I'm right, because every time it surfaces, it just as quickly disappears. In 1899, the Paris newspaper Figaro published that Dr. Bra had surely discovered the germ of cancer and that it was "a fungus like" germ. Then, Dr Bra's relevant discovery and Dr. Bra, disappeared....
Remember Dr. Karthaus in Germany curing 3 children's leukemia with a trio of potent antifungal drugs, aimed at curing their "secondary yeast overgrowth" infections caused by cancer drugs? This was published in 1999, and nothing has been published on this since, nor has Dr Karthaus ever talked about it, to the best of my knowledge. I still contend that this was a Nobel Prize winning discovery...but it's just gone.

Exposure to molds can worsen nasal sinus problems. Molds contain many allergens and mycotoxins which can irritate the nose mucosa (mucosa= skin like structure). In addition, some molds can cause localized or systemic infection in the nose. Many people notice worsened nasal problems when they stay in moldy buildings and/or during late summer and early fall when outdoor mold levels tend to be highest. Nasal problems are also common to those occupationally exposed to molds, such as farmers. Such nasal problems are often accompanied by other symptoms such as asthma, depression or fatigue. Allergens from the molds Alternaria (which grows on decaying vegetation in summer and early fall) and Aspergillus are believed to be particularly likely to cause nasal irritation and allergic reactions

Dear Readers,

I realize that Valentine's Day has come and gone but I still have "hearts" on my mind. Why? One of my patients came in and reported that her cardiologist had told her that "she didn't need to take any of the supplements or antifungals" I had recommended. Now that is what I call "job security". With that being said let's get started.

Back in Spring of 1999, I read an old book written by Dr. Bernard Jensen. It was all about "detoxing" and "cleansing," which involves doing various techniques, (like juice fasting), and taking certain supplements in order to help relieve your body's toxic burdens. I began doing Dr. Jensen's protocol back then, and I've done it ever since, always with fabulous results. (NOTE: I really don't recommend Dr. Jensen's techniques to my clients, even though I do them, myself. The reason is simply because I can't find any scientific evidence as to its safety or efficacy. I recommend Doug's Phase One Diet, and I recommend lots of different kinds of supplements, plus many, many other things, all of which have science behind them. But in my personal life, I'm an experimenter, and I'll try things sometimes before there's any scientific evidence to support them. Therefore, please don't construe this article as an endorsement of Dr. Jensen's protocols.)
